by Barbara

One Night in Tokyo, a poignant romance drama about two strangers navigating a language barrier and finding an unexpected connection, has unveiled its exclusive trailer. The film, reminiscent of the heartfelt storytelling seen in A24’s Past Lives, premiered at the 2024 Cinequest Film Festival, where it was honored with the Audience Award.

The film’s official synopsis reveals an emotional journey: “Sam, arriving in Tokyo to visit his expat girlfriend Becca, is unexpectedly dumped as soon as he steps into her apartment. Left to roam the city alone, he plans to return to the U.S. the following day. However, fate intervenes when he befriends Ayaka, who begrudgingly introduces him to her friends. Despite the language barrier, Sam and Ayaka form a unique bond. As they navigate the complexities of their relationship, trust and vulnerability become essential after a betrayal threatens to unravel their worlds. Together, they must not only learn to communicate, but also confront personal barriers in their quest for self-discovery.”
