New Animated Adaptation of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Set for 2025 Release

P.A. Works, the renowned animation studio behind hits like Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms, is set to release a new animated adaptation of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Titled Alice in Wonderland -Dive in Wonderland-, the upcoming film brings a fresh, visually stunning interpretation of Lewis Carroll’s classic tale, introducing it to a new generation of viewers. Set to premiere in Japan on August 29, 2025, the film will transport audiences into a dreamlike world filled with whimsical characters and thought-provoking riddles, all while maintaining a profound respect for the original source material.

Since its publication in 1865, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland has inspired countless adaptations across various media. From the iconic Disney animated classic to Tim Burton’s live-action retelling, the story has found its way into anime, manga, and video games. Notably, the Alice in the Country of Hearts franchise and the Ouran High School Host Club anime have incorporated elements of Carroll’s fantastical world.

In P.A. Works’ latest take on the beloved story, the studio has crafted an enchanting, storybook-inspired animation style that promises to captivate viewers with its lush, imaginative visuals. The cast for the film includes rising talents Nanoka Hara and Maika Pugh in the roles of Rise (tentative romanization) and Alice, respectively. Hara, an up-and-coming voice actress, expressed her excitement for the project, saying, “I never imagined I’d be offered another voice acting role. It’s an honor to contribute to a medium I deeply admire.” Pugh, who is only 10 years old, also shared her enthusiasm, hoping that families and friends can come together to enjoy the film’s fantastical adventures.

Directed by Toshiya Shinohara, whose previous work includes Inuyasha films and Black Butler, this adaptation of Alice in Wonderland marks a notable milestone—premiering 73 years after Disney’s animated classic.
