Indian actress Kani Kusruti has been named the recipient of IMDb’s prestigious “Breakout Star” STARmeter Award, following a remarkable rise fueled by standout performances in the critically acclaimed films All We Imagine as Light and Girls Will Be Girls. The award recognizes Kusruti’s meteoric ascent on IMDb’s Popular Indian Celebrities chart, which is derived from the platform’s extensive monthly traffic of over 250 million visitors worldwide.
Kusruti’s profile has gained significant traction, particularly after her role as Prabha, a Malayali nurse navigating life in Mumbai, in Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine as Light. The film, which premiered at Cannes 2024, captured global attention by winning the Grand Prix and making history as India’s first main competition entry in three decades. The film also earned two Golden Globe nominations, and IMDb users have awarded it a solid 7.2/10 rating.
Beyond her success in Cannes, Kusruti has also garnered awards season recognition for her supporting role in Girls Will Be Girls, earning a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award. The awards ceremony, set to take place in this month, will see All We Imagine as Light compete for Best International Feature.
