The first season of The Creep Tapes, the Shudder Original series starring Mark Duplass, is coming to physical media on April 1, 2025. This highly anticipated release will be available on both DVD and Blu-ray, just as the series readies for its second season.
The Creep Tapes brings Duplass back to his role from the Creep films, with all six episodes currently streaming on Shudder and AMC+. Developed by Duplass and director Patrick Brice, the show continues the eerie narrative of Duplass’ character, a disturbing figure whose name changes constantly, but whose dark, murderous actions remain consistent. Presented in a found-footage style, the series follows the isolated killer as he lures videographers into his twisted world with promises of work documenting his life. As the footage rolls, it becomes clear that the killer’s intentions are far more sinister, trapping the videographers in a deadly situation.
The Creep franchise, which began with a 2014 found footage film and was followed by a 2017 sequel, delves deeper into the psyche of this unsettling character. Critics have praised the show for its bold storytelling choices, including Daniel Kurland from Bloody Disgusting, who notes, “The Creep Tapes is very careful to not dilute what made the films so effective. It uses its episodic format to not only deconstruct found footage horror but also explore the complexities of documentary filmmaking and the intricate relationship between filmmaker and subject.”
Kurland further describes The Creep Tapes as “a bold experiment that pays off,” helping to reinvent the serial killer chamber piece genre for modern audiences. Fans of the series can look forward to more disturbing thrills with the arrival of the second season later this year.
