Jaume Collet-Serra Announces New Survival Thriller “Play Dead”

by Barbara

Following the success of his Netflix thriller Carry-On, director Jaume Collet-Serra (known for House of Wax, Orphan, The Shallows) has revealed his next project: Play Dead, a survival thriller that has already generated significant buzz.

Although plot details remain tightly under wraps, Play Dead is being described by sources as a blend of Don’t Breathe and 1917. The comparison to Don’t Breathe, Fede Alvarez’s intense 2016 home-invasion horror, alongside 1917, Sam Mendes’ 2019 British war epic, hints that Play Dead could combine elements of high-stakes tension and a wartime backdrop. However, this is purely speculative, and specifics about the film’s narrative are still unclear.

The screenplay for Play Dead was penned by Peter Stanley-Ward and Natalie Conway. The project is being produced by Nocturnal, alongside BoulderLight Pictures, Bad Grey, and Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures. Raimi, known for his work on Don’t Breathe and the Evil Dead franchise, will also produce through Ghost House Pictures with Rob Tapert.
