Director Sam Raimi is making a highly anticipated return to the horror genre with his latest project, Send Help, and it has confirmed that Golden Globe nominee Dennis Haysbert has joined the cast.
Haysbert, known for his standout role in the iconic TV series 24, will join a star-studded ensemble that includes Rachel McAdams, Dylan O’Brien, and Chris Pang. The film, produced by Raimi Productions, is set to be released by 20th Century Studios.
Send Help follows two colleagues, portrayed by O’Brien and McAdams, who find themselves stranded on a deserted island after surviving a plane crash. Alone and isolated, they must put aside personal grievances and work together to stay alive. The story evolves into a psychological battle of wills as the two struggle to escape the island’s dangers.
Character details for Haysbert’s role remain under wraps, leaving much to speculation as the film is still in development.
Haysbert, best known for his role as President David Palmer in 24, received a Golden Globe nomination for his performance in 2002. Recently, he appeared in Hulu’s thriller No Exit and has lent his voice to various animated projects, including Masters of the Universe: Revelation and Dead Rising: Endgame.
Raimi, whose most recent directorial venture was Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), has not helmed a traditional horror film since Drag Me to Hell (2009). His return to the genre has been highly anticipated by fans of his earlier work, including classics like The Evil Dead series.
Send Help is based on an original script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, the writers behind the 2009 Friday the 13th reboot. Raimi will produce alongside Zainab Azizi under Raimi Productions.
