Taylor Lautner, best known for his iconic role as Jacob Black in The Twilight Saga, is set to make a major return to the werewolf genre—this time with a creative and meta twist. The actor will both star in and executive produce Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter, an upcoming scripted series currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios.
The show, developed by Tornante, the independent studio behind popular series like BoJack Horseman and Undone, promises a unique take on Lautner’s legacy as a supernatural star. Daisy Gardner will serve as the series’ creator and showrunner.
According to a logline from the series, the premise takes an unexpected turn:
“After wrapping the final Twilight film, Taylor Lautner vanished from the spotlight. Fans speculated, tabloids theorized—but the truth is wilder than fiction. Taylor wasn’t just taking a mental health break. He was preparing for his real calling… Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter.”
In a twist of self-awareness, Lautner plays himself as he is drawn into a hidden society of werewolf hunters who require his particular set of skills. The series follows his character as he juggles his day job as a Hollywood actor with his secret identity as a supernatural warrior. Lautner must grapple with the irony of battling the very creatures that propelled him to fame in Twilight.
As he faces challenges in both his career and his quest to protect the world, Lautner’s character must confront a deeper question: What happens when the role that made you famous becomes your greatest adversary?
Lautner, who became a household name portraying the beloved werewolf Jacob Black in the Twilight series, which grossed over $3 billion globally, is poised to reignite interest in the supernatural genre. His return to the world of werewolves, combined with a comedic and self-referential approach, is sure to appeal to both long-time Twilight fans and newcomers alike.
