Netflix has announced its latest Korean romantic comedy series, Boyfriend on Demand (working title), starring Blackpink’s Jisoo and renowned actor Seo In-guk in leading roles. The high-concept drama is set to captivate audiences with a blend of futuristic technology and heartfelt romance.
The story follows Seo Mi-rae, a hardworking webtoon producer, played by Jisoo, whose life takes an unexpected turn when she becomes the recipient of a “Monthly Boyfriend” device. This virtual reality dating tool offers her the chance to engage with seemingly perfect suitors, opening the door to a journey of love and self-discovery. As Mi-rae navigates her increasingly complex romantic encounters, her career-focused lifestyle is put to the test.
Seo In-guk takes on the role of Park Kyeong-nam, a rival webtoon producer who hides a softer side beneath his seemingly cold exterior. His evolving relationship with Mi-rae promises to inject significant tension into the workplace romance, driving the drama’s emotional core.
Director Kim Jung-sik, known for his work on Work Later, Drink Now and No Gain No Love, will lead the series. Kim’s ability to blend humor with emotional depth suggests that Boyfriend on Demand will balance its innovative, tech-driven premise with grounded, relatable storytelling.
This project is part of Netflix’s ongoing commitment to expanding its slate of Korean content, particularly in the romance genre. It follows a series of successful titles, underscoring the platform’s focus on producing diverse and engaging K-dramas. Earlier this month, Netflix revealed its 2025 content lineup, which includes several high-profile series.
For Jisoo, this project marks another significant step in her acting career. Following her success in Disney+ and JTBC’s Snowdrop, she is also starring in the new Prime Video series Newtopia, which premiered in February. In Newtopia, Jisoo plays Kang Young-joo, a young woman navigating her career while trying to reunite with her boyfriend, played by Park Jeon-min, amidst a zombie outbreak in Seoul.
