Hulu’s upcoming series The Testaments, a sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, has announced Lucy Halliday in one of its lead roles. Halliday will portray Daisy, a key character in Margaret Atwood’s novel, which serves as the foundation for the series. Daisy joins two other protagonists, Agnes (Chase Infiniti) and Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd), the latter reprising her role from The Handmaid’s Tale.
Set 15 years after the events of its predecessor, The Testaments follows Daisy, a Canadian teenager whose world is turned upside down upon discovering her ties to the oppressive Republic of Gilead.
Hulu and MGM Television secured the rights to Atwood’s novel just before its 2019 publication. Bruce Miller, creator of The Handmaid’s Tale, has spent years developing the new series and shifted focus from his showrunner duties on the final season of The Handmaid’s Tale to concentrate on The Testaments. He remains an executive producer on the original series.
Halliday, a rising star, made her film debut in the 2022 British feature Blue Jean, which earned her a BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Actress and a nomination for a British Independent Film Award. She is also set to appear in James McAvoy’s directorial debut California Schemin’. Halliday is represented by Curtis Brown Group and Myman Greenspan.
Miller will executive produce The Testaments alongside The Handmaid’s Tale EPs Warren Littlefield and Steve Stark.
