Hulu has announced a major update for Only Murders in the Building Season 5, just after the series won its first-ever SAG-AFTRA award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. The highly anticipated next installment of the acclaimed murder mystery sitcom has officially begun production, marking the first major step since the show wrapped its 10-episode fourth season over four months ago.
Season 4, which earned widespread critical acclaim, currently holds a Certified Fresh rating of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, continuing the series’ success. The show’s core trio—Selena Gomez as Mabel, Steve Martin as Charles, and Martin Short as Oliver—will return for the fifth season. The three stars were nominated for Golden Globe awards for Best Actress and Best Actor for their work in Season 4.
Joining the returning cast are Michael Cyril Creighton, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Jackie Hoffman, James Caverly, and Ryan Broussard, with potential returns of new characters introduced in Season 4, although confirmations are yet to come.
Created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman, Only Murders in the Building continues to thrive as a hit series. Season 4 concluded with a dramatic twist as Oliver and Meryl Streep’s character Loretta tied the knot, and new character Sofia Caccimelio, played by Téa Leoni, made an appearance. The finale also introduced the mysterious death of Arconia doorman Lester, setting the stage for the upcoming season’s murder mystery. Executive producers for the series include Martin, Hoffman, Short, Gomez, Jamie Babbitt, Dan Fogelman, and Jess Rosenthal.
