Following his role in The Substance, Dennis Quaid is set to take viewers into a chilling new world with Happy Face, an eight-episode true-crime thriller debuting on Paramount+ on March 20. The series, based on the Happy Face podcast and Melissa G. Moore’s autobiography Shattered Silence, promises to deliver a gripping and unsettling story that will stay with viewers long after the credits roll.
The show’s plot centers around Melissa G. Moore, who was only 15 years old when she learned that her father, the man she loved, was the infamous “Happy Face Killer.” Now an adult, Melissa has attempted to bury her traumatic past by changing her name and distancing herself from her father, who remains behind bars. However, after years of silence, her father finds a way to force his way back into her life, dragging her into a dark and twisted chapter she hoped was long closed.
Annaleigh Ashford, known for her role in American Crime Story, plays Melissa in the series, alongside a talented cast that includes Dennis Quaid, James Wolk, Tamera Tomakili, Khiyla Aynne, and Benjamin Mackey. As the plot unfolds, Melissa races against time to prevent an innocent man from being executed for a crime her father committed. Along the way, she is forced to confront the devastating impact her father had on his victims’ families while struggling with her own identity and the dark legacy he left behind.
The show’s producers include CBS Studios, King Size Productions, iHeartPodcasts, and Semi-Formal Productions, with Jennifer Cacicio, known for her work on Your Honor and Shooter, serving as the showrunner and executive producer. Michael Showalter, whose credits include The Dropout and The Eyes of Tammy Faye, directs the first episode.
With a compelling storyline and a talented ensemble, Happy Face is set to be a must-watch for fans of true-crime thrillers. Catch the first two episodes when they premiere on March 20, with new episodes releasing weekly on Thursdays, leading up to the gripping finale on May 1. Don’t miss this dark and intense journey into one family’s nightmare.
