ComingSoon has unveiled an exclusive trailer for New Jack Fury, a psychedelic Blaxploitation film directed by Lanfia Wal. Set to have its world premiere at the 2025 South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival as part of its Midnighter screening section, the film promises a high-energy, genre-bending experience.
Wal, who previously wrote episodes for the intense crime drama Crime & Justice, shared his motivation behind creating New Jack Fury. “After working on true-story dramas dealing with serious topics like femicide, child trafficking, and government corruption, I wanted to do something completely outrageous and fun,” Wal said. “A neon-soaked, synth-heavy action-comedy from the ’80s was the perfect escape, so New Jack Fury was born.”
The newly released trailer offers a glimpse into the chaotic world of New Jack Fury, centered around an undercover police officer, Dylan Gamble, played by Andre Hall (Boo! A Madea Halloween). The film also stars Page Kennedy, Dean “Michael Trapson” Morrow, Paul Wheeler, Ally Renee, Shawn Nathan, Wrekless Watson, Ace Vane, James Markham Hall Jr., and Vincent M. Ward.
In addition to writing and directing, Wal serves as the film’s editor and production designer. The production team includes producers Van White, Mariah Morgenstern, Denaun Porter, and Akino Childrey, with Chris R. Jones as executive producer. Cinematographer Jonathan Rigattieri, stunt coordinator Eric C. Sun, and assistant director Joshua Lou Friedman round out the creative team.
New Jack Fury follows the story of Dylan Gamble, a straight-laced undercover officer determined to dismantle the powerful Styles Syndicate. Fired before completing his mission, Dylan’s life takes a turn a year later when his girlfriend, Tanisha, is kidnapped by the Syndicate. Desperate to save her, Dylan teams up with Hendrix Moon, a small-time crook, and Leslie Kindall, an eccentric moonwalker and Moon’s rival. Together, they form an unlikely alliance to bring down the Syndicate and rescue Tanisha.
The official synopsis promises plenty of action, humor, and ’80s nostalgia: “Will Dylan save Tanisha? Can he take down the Syndicate? Can Moon and Leslie survive working together? And will cassette tapes triumph over 8-tracks?”
With its blend of humor, action, and colorful ’80s aesthetics, New Jack Fury is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films at SXSW 2025.
