Cynthia Erivo Joins Lionsgate’s ‘Karoshi’ Action Thriller

by Barbara

Cynthia Erivo has been confirmed to star in Karoshi, an upcoming action thriller from Lionsgate, produced by the powerhouse 87Eleven Entertainment. The film, which marks an exciting collaboration between Erivo and the production company behind John Wick, will see her share the screen with Teo Yoo (Past Lives, The Recruit) and Isabel May (1883), as previously reported by Deadline.

Produced by Chad Stahelski, Alex Young, and Jason Spitz of 87Eleven Entertainment, Karoshi will begin filming in June under the direction of Takashi Doscher, who also penned the screenplay. While plot details remain under wraps, the film is being billed as a corporate thriller with a unique samurai twist, blending modern business intrigue with traditional martial arts action.

Erivo’s casting follows a whirlwind of career milestones. Fresh off her role as Elphaba Thropp in Jon M. Chu’s Wicked franchise, she has continued to build an impressive portfolio. This summer, she will appear as Jesus in a special production of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl, taking the stage from August 1-3. Additionally, Erivo will feature in the second season of Poker Face on Peacock, where she plays a set of sextuplets, and just dropped her new single “Replay,” from her upcoming album.
