At the SXSW TV Film Festival, Michele Morrone, who plays the character Enzo in the upcoming film adaptation of Freida McFadden’s novel The Housemaid, assured fans that they would not be disappointed with the upcoming release.
Morrone, promoting his role in Another Simple Favor, stated, “I think the film is going to be very faithful to the book. That’s all I can actually say.” As for his portrayal of Enzo, Morrone kept things mysterious, describing his character as “a weirdo.” He added with a laugh, “I like to play weirdos as you know, but I’m proud of myself to be part of that project and being a weirdo!”
The Lionsgate film, slated for release on Christmas Day 2025, features a star-studded cast, including Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, and Morrone. Directed by Paul Feig, the thriller tells the story of Millie (played by Sweeney), a young woman who takes a job as a housemaid to a wealthy couple, Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew (Sklenar), in search of a fresh start. As Millie becomes embroiled in their world, she uncovers their dark secrets and begins to realize the dangers that lurk within her new home.
In the novel, Enzo is the family’s groundskeeper with a storyline of his own. Sklenar, who plays Andrew, described the film as “very dark, dramatic, twisted,” revealing that his character is a mix of “Norman Bates meets Patrick Bateman.” He teased, “It’s not gory but it’s twisted. It’s out there for sure. I am a little unhinged. You very rarely get the opportunity to just let the cat out of the bag.”
Fans can expect a gripping and intense adaptation that stays true to the novel’s chilling atmosphere.
