Viva Communications Unveils Horror Slate at Hong Kong FilMart

by Barbara

Viva Communications, a leading entertainment company from the Philippines, is preparing to unveil a thrilling lineup of horror films at the upcoming Hong Kong FilMart, headlined by acclaimed filmmaker Mikhail Red’s latest offering, Lilim.

Premiering earlier this month in the Philippines, Lilim transports viewers to the turbulent 1970s and 1980s, a period marked by social upheaval. The film follows the harrowing journey of a brother and sister who seek refuge in a secluded orphanage amidst the chaos. However, what starts as a sanctuary quickly spirals into a nightmare as the siblings uncover dark cult rituals and confront a long-buried evil lurking within the orphanage’s walls. The cast features Heaven Peralejo, Eula Valdez, Mon Confiado, and Ryza Cenon.

In addition to Lilim, Viva Communications is set to launch several other horror titles in 2025, including Mak Mak, a remake of the hit box office film Pee Mak. The company will also showcase local horror films like Talim Island and Rosario.

Talim Island, directed by Roni Benaid, is described with the tagline: “Blood of the Cursed,” while Rosario, directed by Bobby Bonifacio Jr., explores a Filipino superstition involving rosaries and curses. In Rosario, a family curse is unleashed when an unbroken rosary is mistakenly placed in the hands of a deceased woman, violating the traditional belief that a broken rosary should be used in such instances.

This horror film slate is part of a larger content strategy for Viva, which has seen success across its platforms. “In addition to our horror titles, we will also be showcasing our latest adult series and YA adaptations from Wattpad,” said Vincent Del Rosario, president and COO of Viva Communications.

Viva is also actively exploring partnership opportunities. “Our intellectual properties are available for remakes, and we are continuously seeking strong IPs that we can localize,” Del Rosario added. “Viva Communications is open to co-productions with other territories.”
