The first official trailer for Baby Invasion, Harmony Korine’s highly anticipated experimental thriller, has arrived, offering a glimpse into the unconventional narrative of home invaders captured from a first-person perspective.
The trailer introduces viewers to an interactive cinematic experience that follows a group of home invaders as they break into a house. What sets this movie apart is its unique first-person viewpoint, which mimics the perspective of a first-person shooter game. In a striking twist, Korine uses AI technology to replace the invaders’ faces with the images of babies, enhancing the unsettling atmosphere of the film.
Premiering at the Venice International Film Festival last year, Baby Invasion was crafted from over 80 hours of footage, with Korine pushing boundaries in both narrative and presentation. The film features a haunting score by the elusive electronic artist Burial, whose collaboration with Korine was entirely remote. Korine revealed that he never met or spoke directly with Burial throughout the process.
In true Korine fashion, Baby Invasion departs from traditional filmmaking methods. Like his previous project, Aggro Dr1ft, the film lacks a conventional script or cast. Instead, Korine recruited individuals with real-life experience in home invasions. “Some of the cast were actually people that tried to rob a lot of friends of mine,” Korine explained in an interview “Once they were arrested, we cast them, and it just added that extra sense of reality.”
The film’s official synopsis sets the stage: Baby Invasion revolves around a first-person shooter game leaked to the dark web, where a group of mercenaries, disguised with baby faces, invade the homes of the rich and powerful. As gamers livestream the action, the line between fiction and reality blurs, leaving viewers to question whether the horrific events unfolding are truly happening in real life.
Fans of Korine’s boundary-pushing style can look forward to a deeply immersive and unsettling cinematic journey when Baby Invasion makes its way to theaters.
