‘Stuntman’ Secures Japan Release in July

by Barbara

Hong Kong film distributor Twin has secured the Japanese distribution rights to Stuntman, with plans for a July release. The move comes amid a recent resurgence of interest in Hong Kong cinema, fueled by the box office success of Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In.

The deal was announced by Hong Kong-based sales agent Entertaining Power at Filmart. Directed by twin brothers Albert and Herbert Leung in their feature debut, Stuntman is a tribute to the legendary stunt performers of Hong Kong’s action film golden age. The film stars Tung Wai, a seven-time Hong Kong Film Award winner and two-time Golden Horse Award recipient for action choreography, who plays a former stunt director attempting a career comeback.

The film also features co-stars Terrance Lau and Philip Ng, with Angus Chan serving as producer. All three actors previously collaborated on Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In, which became the highest-grossing Hong Kong film in Japan over the past five years, earning ¥282 million ($1.9 million) through distributor Klockworx.

Stuntman had its mainland China premiere on March 14, distributed by Shanghai Hero Film, and has also been released in North America, the UK, and select Asian markets.
