The first trailer for Materialists, the highly anticipated follow-up to Celine Song’s acclaimed film Past Lives, has arrived. The upcoming dramedy stars Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans, and promises an intriguing exploration of love and relationships.
Set in New York, Materialists centers around Lucy, played by Johnson, an ambitious matchmaker who specializes in helping others find their perfect match. However, Lucy’s own love life takes a complicated turn when she finds herself torn between two very different men: Randy, a wealthy and charming individual portrayed by Pascal, and John, her flawed but familiar ex, played by Evans.
In the two-and-a-half-minute trailer, Lucy’s internal struggle takes center stage as she navigates these two relationships, grappling with where her heart truly belongs. “When I see your face, I see wrinkles and children that look like you,” John tells Lucy in a pivotal moment. “So where does that leave us?”
The film also features Zoe Winters, Marin Ireland, Dasha Nekrasova, Louisa Jacobson, Sawyer Spielberg, Eddie Cahill, and Fernando Belo in supporting roles. Song has once again teamed up with Past Lives producer David Hinojosa, alongside Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler from Killer Films.
Materialists is set to hit theaters in Australia on June 12 and in the U.S. on June 13.
