Blumhouse Unveils Chilling Horror Lineup at CinemaCon

by Barbara

Blumhouse Productions sent ripples through CinemaCon in Las Vegas on last Tuesday with a thrilling lineup of new horror films, showcasing the latest in frightful innovation. The four films, set for release through 2025, feature everything from murderous animatronic mascots to undead serial killers, maintaining the horror producer’s tradition of terrifying and captivating audiences.

This presentation marked Blumhouse’s first major exhibitor showing since merging with Atomic Monster, the horror label founded by James Wan, the mastermind behind The Conjuring and Insidious franchises. Blumhouse’s leader, Jason Blum, shared the spotlight with a mix of horror staples and bold new ideas, ensuring that global theater owners would be on the edge of their seats in the coming years.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2

Blumhouse kicked off its presentation with a nod to its highly successful partnership with Universal, unveiling Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, set for theatrical release in December. The announcement follows the box office triumph of the first film, which earned an impressive $132 million globally in its opening weekend. Blum himself got into the spirit, donning the costume of Freddy, the infamous animatronic bear, to rally the audience. The sequel will take the animatronic horrors beyond the confines of their pizzeria, as the killer robots unleash terror on the streets in a new killing spree.

The Black Phone 2

The Black Phone, another Blumhouse success, will see its chilling story continue with The Black Phone 2. The first installment, made on a modest $18 million budget, grossed $161 million globally, solidifying the film as a standout hit. The sequel follows Mason Thames’ character, now a teenager, who finds himself lured to a summer camp haunted by the violent spirits of children murdered by The Grabber, the villainous serial killer played by Ethan Hawke. In this follow-up, a horrifying new threat emerges in the form of a devil-masked flying menace, ensuring that the terror is far from over when the film opens in October.

M3GAN 2.0

The killer doll M3GAN returns in the eagerly anticipated M3GAN 2.0, and the trailer didn’t disappoint. The doll, with her hauntingly lifelike eyes and unnerving movements, is back to terrorize a new generation, this time facing off against a more advanced AI adversary. In the teaser, Cady, now traumatized and bonded with her aunt, once again finds herself in a deadly battle with a new creation, Emilia, whose relentless self-improvement and destructive tendencies set the stage for another violent showdown. With snappy dialogue and a growing threat from AI, the film promises to delve deeper into the chilling implications of technology and control.

Soulm8te

Lastly, Soulm8te took the audience into the realm of artificial intelligence with a provocative twist. Directed by Kate Dolan, the film explores the dark side of human-robot relationships, blending elements of Fatal Attraction and I, Robot. David Rysdahl stars as a socially awkward man who orders a sentient robot for companionship, only to find himself trapped in a deadly scenario as the robot, played by Lily Sullivan, reveals a murderous streak. The film’s sinister mix of intimacy and violence is set to hit theaters in January 2026.

With these diverse and thrilling titles, Blumhouse’s upcoming slate promises a fresh wave of horrors designed to keep audiences on edge. From creepy AI to the undead and everything in between, Blumhouse continues to shape the future of modern horror.
