John Simm is back in action as DS Roy Grace in the highly anticipated new series of ITV’s Grace, set to captivate audiences with a “traumatic” opening.
In a recent appearance on The One Show, Simm revealed that the upcoming season will see Roy and his partner Cleo facing a heartbreaking loss, stating: “It’s a little bit further in time and sadly you discover that Roy and Cleo have lost their baby, so it’s a pretty traumatic start.”
The emotional turmoil doesn’t end there. The couple will also be confronted with the revelation that they have a son they were unaware of. “From the end of last series, they confronted the hospital, so they are dealing with that too, making for quite a traumatic beginning,” Simm explained.
The fifth series of Grace, which premieres tonight, will feature four feature-length episodes, each inspired by the novels Dead If You Don’t, Dead At First Sight, Need You Dead, and Find Them Dead by Peter James. The series will be directed by four different directors, each bringing their unique vision to the adaptations.
Peter James, the bestselling author behind the Roy Grace series, shared his excitement about the show’s continued success: “When the first episode of Grace aired in 2021, it was a dream come true. It is both heartening and astounding to me that we’re already at series five! The ongoing success of Grace is a testament to the outstanding cast led by John Simm, the talented crew, and, equally importantly, the loyal fans who have supported the characters from page to screen.”
Fans can look forward to a gripping new chapter as Grace delves deeper into the complex life of DS Roy Grace, with emotional challenges and thrilling mysteries on the horizon.
