Wes Anderson’s highly anticipated 13th film, The Phoenician Scheme, has dropped its first trailer. The movie, described as an espionage thriller, features a star-studded cast, including Benicio del Toro, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Mia Threapleton, and Richard Ayoade.
This new comedy marks another collaboration between Anderson and Roman Coppola, who have worked together on films like The Darjeeling Limited, Moonrise Kingdom, The French Dispatch, and Isle of Dogs.
In The Phoenician Scheme, del Toro plays Zsa-zsa Korda, a millionaire who has survived six plane crashes and fathered ten children, including a nun named Liesel, portrayed by Mia Threapleton. Alongside their tutor, Bjorn Lund (played by Michael Cera), they embark on an adventure to secure the future of Korda’s business empire.
The film also features an impressive lineup of supporting characters, including Uncle Nubar (Benedict Cumberbatch), Excaliber (Rupert Friend), and a freedom fighter played by Richard Ayoade.
Regular Anderson collaborators such as Mathieu Amalric, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Bryan Cranston, and Jeffrey Wright also appear.
The Phoenician Scheme is set for release in late May, and many are speculating that it may debut at the Cannes Film Festival earlier that month.
