IFC Films has released an official trailer for Tornado, an upcoming indie revenge thriller. The film, not to be confused with the weather phenomenon, made its premiere earlier this year at the 2025 Glasgow Film Festival in Scotland. It will hit theaters in the U.S. on May 30, 2025.
The story follows Tornado, the daughter of a Japanese puppeteer, who becomes entangled with a group of violent criminals. Her father’s traveling puppet Samurai show is ambushed by a notorious gang led by Sugarman and his son, Little Sugar. After her father’s murder at the hands of the gang, Tornado vows to take revenge and steal the gang’s stolen gold. She sets out on a dangerous journey to carve her own fate.
The film stars Japanese model and actress Kôki (also known as Mitsuki Kimura) as Tornado, alongside Tim Roth, Takehiro Hira, Jack Lowden, Douglas Russell, Rory McCann, and Alex Macqueen.
Set in the rugged 1790s Britain, Tornado tells a tale of vengeance, survival, and self-determination. Tornado finds herself in a desperate fight for survival after her father’s death, while also trying to bring down the criminals who destroyed her life.
Directed by British filmmaker John Maclean, known for Slow West and a variety of short films and music videos, Tornado is produced by Leonora Darby, James Harris, and Mark Lane. The film will also debut in the UK this May.
For fans of revenge thrillers, Tornado promises an intense, action-packed ride. Don’t miss it when it hits theaters this summer.
