Vincent D’Onofrio Wants to Play Swamp Thing in DC Universe

by Barbara

Vincent D’Onofrio, known for his role as Wilson Fisk in Daredevil: Born Again, has shared an unexpected desire to portray a DC character—Swamp Thing. When asked on Twitter which character he’d like to play outside of his Marvel role, D’Onofrio’s simple response was: “Swamp Thing.”

Swamp Thing, a beloved DC character first introduced in 1971, is typically portrayed as a monster with a deep connection to plant life. The character’s most prominent version is Alec Holland, a scientist who becomes Swamp Thing after a tragic accident, and is often linked to the Justice League Dark.

Interestingly, a new Swamp Thing movie is in the works, directed by James Mangold, and it will be distinct from the broader DC Universe (DCU). Mangold has described the film as a “simple, clean Gothic horror” that focuses on the transformation of a man into a monster.

While D’Onofrio is currently starring in Daredevil: Born Again, his interest in playing Swamp Thing adds another layer of excitement for both Marvel and DC fans, as the actor has proven his versatility in portraying complex, morally ambiguous characters.
