The mischievous ghost we all know and love is not done yet. After making a major return to the spotlight with a new Tim Burton-directed sequel last year, Beetlejuice will be haunting the big screen again, with Warner Bros. confirming more spooky adventures to come.
In a recent conversation with Deadline, Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairmen and CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy hinted at more Beetlejuice films in the pipeline. When asked about upcoming projects like the Minecraft movie and potential Beetlejuice sequels, De Luca teased, “Imminently. The ink might not be dry on the deals yet, but imminently.”
The original Beetlejuice (1988) was a major success, grossing over $74 million worldwide on a modest $15 million budget. The film won an Academy Award for Best Makeup and helped cement Tim Burton’s career in Hollywood. The more recent sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024), has also been a box office hit, earning about $451 million worldwide, with $294 million coming from domestic audiences and $157 million internationally.
When asked by /Film about the possibility of a third Beetlejuice film, Burton seemed less enthusiastic. “Yeah, they talk, whatever, but if it follows the model now, I’d be making that when I’d be over 100 [years old],” he said. “It’s possible, but I don’t know. With medical science these days, I don’t know. But no, for me, I wasn’t really personally interested — if you said it to me, I would run the other direction. This is one where it was something that caught my thing. Now, would something else hit? I don’t know. Not right now, because I’m still finishing this one.”
As for the expected title of the next installment—will it be Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice? Fans are eagerly awaiting confirmation, but for now, all we can do is wait for more updates.
