The Northwest Montana History Museum will host its next Movie Night on April 17, featuring the 1991 film Enchanted April. The screening will take place at the museum’s downtown Kalispell location at 124 Second Ave. E.
Enchanted April tells the story of four English women in the 1920s who leave behind the dreary weather of London for a much-needed getaway in an Italian villa. The film follows the experiences of Lotty Wilkins (Josie Lawrence) and Rose Arbuthnot (Miranda Richardson), who, despite knowing each other only casually through a ladies’ club, decide to embark on the trip together. In order to afford the expenses, they invite two additional women: the elderly Mrs. Fisher (Joan Plowright) and the wealthy Lady Caroline Dester (Polly Walker).
Adapted from Elizabeth von Arnim’s 1922 novel The Enchanted April, the film explores the women’s growing friendship as they spend a transformative month under the sun-drenched skies of Italy. Filmed on location at Castello Brown in Portofino, Italy, the same villa where von Arnim stayed in the 1920s, the movie offers a picturesque setting for this heartwarming tale.
The screening will begin at 7:00 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free, and popcorn will be provided. Attendees can also purchase soda, water, beer, and wine. Seating is available, but guests are welcome to bring their own cushions for added comfort.
The Northwest Montana History Museum, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, offers a wide array of exhibits, artifacts, and educational programs to bring local history to life. The museum is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
