Lindsay Lohan is set to star in and executive produce Count My Lies, a drama series currently in development at Hulu. This will mark Lohan’s first leading role in a TV series. The project is based on Sophie Stava’s recently released novel and is being developed by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, the former executive producers and co-showrunners of This Is Us. The series is being produced by 20th Television, with Aptaker and Berger’s The Walk-Up Company, under an overall deal with the studio.
In Count My Lies, Lohan will play the role of Sloane Caraway, a compulsive liar who lands a nanny job with the wealthy and charming Violet and Jay Lockhart. However, she quickly learns that the family’s seemingly perfect life hides many secrets that could have explosive and dangerous consequences. The series follows Sloane’s journey as she navigates her new job and the complexities of the Lockhart household.
The show will also feature Aptaker and Berger as executive producers alongside Lohan. Sophie Stava, whose debut novel inspired the series, will serve as a producer. Count My Lies is being produced by 20th Television, a subsidiary of Disney TV Studios.
Aptaker and Berger have a strong connection to Disney, having previously worked on two popular Hulu series, Love, Victor and How I Met Your Father. Their association with Disney dates back over 13 years, and their work continues to be central to the network’s programming.
Lohan, known for her long history with Disney, will return to the studio where she began her career. Her early films, such as The Parent Trap (1998), Freaky Friday (2003), and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (2004), were all Disney productions. She also made a notable appearance on ABC’s Ugly Betty. Lohan’s recent return to the Disney fold includes her starring role in the upcoming Freaky Friday sequel, set for release on August 8. Additionally, she starred in Netflix’s holiday film Our Little Secret, released in 2025.
The novel Count My Lies, published in March 2025, was selected as the GMA Book Club pick of the month. Stava, who is represented by CAA and Elisabeth Weed at The Book Group, has already garnered significant attention for her debut work. The series adaptation will bring her story to life on Hulu.
Aptaker and Berger are no strangers to the world of drama series. They served as executive producers and co-showrunners on This Is Us, which became a major success for NBC. They were also behind the How I Met Your Mother spinoff, How I Met Your Father, and were creators of Love, Victor, a series based on the Love, Simon film. Their work continues to be a driving force in shaping successful series at Hulu.
As the development of Count My Lies moves forward, the team is set to expand their creative collaboration, with Lohan stepping into a role that could potentially mark the next big chapter in her career. The series is expected to combine suspense, drama, and Lohan’s dynamic presence, making it one to watch for fans of the genre.
