Saban Films will release the shark thriller Fear Below next month with digital, On Demand, and limited theatrical options. The film is set to debut on May 2nd, and a trailer has been released in anticipation of the launch.
Directed by Matthew Holmes, who co-wrote the screenplay with Gregory Moss, Fear Below follows a group of criminals who lose their stolen gold in a river. They hire a team of desperate divers to retrieve it, only to find themselves facing a vicious bull shark. The danger doesn’t end there, as even greater threats await them on land. What sets this thriller apart is its setting in 1946 Australia, adding a historical dimension to the usual shark movie formula.
The film stars Hermione Corfield (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation), Jake Ryan (Underbelly), Josh McConville (Black Snow), and Jacob Junior Nayinggul (Barrumbi Kids), among others.
Produced by Blake Northfield and Michael Favelle, Fear Below is rated R for bloody violence and strong language. The film has a runtime of 85 minutes.
Matthew Holmes is known for his previous works, including The Biscuit Effect and The Legend of Ben Hall. While Holmes has tackled historical dramas before, it remains to be seen how he fares with a thriller of this nature.
