“Yadang: The Snitch” Tops Korean Box Office

South Korean crime thriller Yadang: The Snitch has claimed the top spot at the domestic box office, earning $4.1 million and taking a commanding 69.8% share of weekend revenue. The film was released on April 16 and ran from April 18 to 20, attracting 608,104 admissions across 1,832 screens, according to data from the Korean Film Council’s tracking service, Kobis.

Directed by Hwang Byung-Guk, Yadang: The Snitch stars Kang Ha-neul, known for his role in Squid Game 2. The film explores the dangerous world of a professional informant, known as a “yadang,” who provides covert information about the drug trade to law enforcement. When a drug bust at a high-profile party exposes a dangerous conspiracy, the informant finds himself fighting to survive. Kang stars alongside Yoo Hai-jin, famous for Exhuma, and Park Hae-joon from The World of the Married.

The film’s impressive opening brings its cumulative earnings to $5.2 million, with 786,032 admissions so far, marking one of the strongest domestic releases of the year.

The box office as a whole saw a significant increase, with the top 10 films grossing $5.4 million, up from the previous weekend’s $3.4 million.

In second place, the sports drama The Match earned $705,043 from 105,817 viewers. Now in its fourth week, the film has grossed $13.1 million with nearly 2 million total admissions.

Attack on Titan: The Movie – The Last Attack continued its steady performance, taking third place with $171,764 and 22,435 admissions. The anime finale has earned $5.3 million in South Korea, attracting over 752,000 viewers.

Meanwhile, A Minecraft Movie, which launched with a limited pre-release ahead of its nationwide debut on April 26, earned $171,633 from 20,916 admissions across 83 screens. It ranked fourth, sharing 2.9% of the revenue with Attack on Titan.

The British romantic comedy Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy opened in fifth place, collecting $77,951 from 11,720 viewers. Since its midweek release, the film has grossed $191,408 in Korea.

Other notable performances include animated feature Flow, which earned $57,600 in its sixth weekend, bringing its total to $1.1 million. The biographical drama Maria, starring Angelina Jolie, opened in seventh place with $39,819. Japanese horror Sayuri followed closely behind with $38,476.

Espionage thriller The Amateur dropped to ninth place with $37,363 in earnings, while Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing, a musical anime, completed the top 10 with $39,872 from 26 screens.

The Korean box office is seeing strong competition across genres as Yadang: The Snitch continues to dominate.
