The teaser trailer for Weapons, the latest horror feature from writer-director Zach Cregger, has been released, hinting at a chilling narrative about children disappearing from their homes. The film will arrive in theaters on August 8, with an ensemble cast that includes Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, and others.
The film follows a small town plagued by mysterious vanishings of children late at night. A voiceover in the trailer ominously suggests, “Those kids walked out of the homes. No one pulled them out. No one forced them.” Cregger, who gained recognition with his previous horror hit Barbarian, promises a film that is “intriguing, unpredictable, with a nice helping of batshit insane,” according to New Line’s Richard Brener.
Weapons will explore its multi-story narrative through a town gripped by fear and mystery. Following a highly competitive bidding war, Cregger’s script was acquired by New Line in 2023 for an eight-figure sum. The film marks Cregger’s return to the genre after Barbarian‘s success, which grossed over $45 million globally.
Cregger, originally part of the comedy group The Whitest Kids U’ Know, has also worked on a Resident Evil reboot. For Weapons, he has gathered a talented cast that includes Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan, alongside the lead performances by Brolin and Garner.
The film’s release is highly anticipated, with the official trailer piquing interest with its eerie atmosphere and compelling story.
