In an extraordinary turn of events at the annual Burning Man festival, Chris Rock and Diplo found themselves in a precarious situation, only to be rescued by an unexpected hero.
Amidst the challenging conditions brought about by heavy rainfall that prematurely halted the festival, two of the entertainment world’s brightest stars were saved from a potential disaster thanks to a benevolent fan with a plan.
While many festival-goers were left to contend with the muddy quagmire and inclement weather, Chris Rock and Diplo found themselves facing a unique predicament. Their salvation came in the form of an offer from an altruistic fan who extended a ride out of the festival grounds in the bed of a pickup truck.
In an Instagram video shared by Diplo, the duo can be seen amidst a group of people, huddled together in the back of the truck, making their escape from the festival’s soggy confines. Diplo humorously noted, “After walking six miles through the mud… all Chris could think about was a f—ing cold brew.”
In the footage, Chris Rock can be heard quipping, “If I could get a cold brew right now…”
Sharing this remarkable escape on his Instagram feed, Diplo expressed his gratitude to the fan who had come to their rescue. He also mentioned his looming show in Washington, D.C., emphasizing his commitment to not disappoint his fans. His resourcefulness and determination paid off as he later shared videos confirming his timely arrival at his Washington, D.C. set.
Chris Rock, too, took to Instagram to share the grim reality of the festival’s conditions, revealing the thick mud that had engulfed the area due to the relentless rain.
Representatives for both Diplo and Chris Rock remained tight-lipped, declining to provide immediate comments when contacted by EW.
As a result of the severe weather conditions, festival attendees were cautioned to “shelter in place” rather than attempting to leave. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, in response to the rain’s onset, closed the festival entrance the following day, and via Facebook, urged prospective festival-goers to stay away from the area.
In a bid to assist those trapped within the festival grounds, some event organizers set up a dedicated webpage offering vital updates and resources.
Tragically, one fatality has been reported at the festival and is currently under investigation by the Pershing County Sheriff’s Office, according to NBC News. Specific details regarding the deceased, including their identity and cause of death, remain undisclosed. The sheriff’s office confirmed that the victim’s family had been notified, but due to the ongoing investigation, further information was not available at the time of The New York Times’ report.
Burning Man, an annual gathering that draws an average of 70,000 attendees each year, is renowned as “a global ecosystem of artists, makers, and community organizers who co-create art, events, and local initiatives around the world.”
