Bat-fans, prepare for a longer wait as Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated sequel to The Batman faces a delay. Initially slated for a late 2025 release, the follow-up film, dubbed The Batman Part II, has been pushed back by a full year due to a reshuffle at Warner Bros.
The new release date for The Batman Part II is set for October 2, 2026, extending the gap between the first and second installments to four-and-a-half years. While this delay may disappoint fans eager to see Robert Pattinson reprise his role as Bruce Wayne, there’s still plenty of Bat-content to tide them over.
In the meantime, viewers can look forward to the tie-in Max series, The Penguin, featuring Colin Farrell’s portrayal of the notorious gangster as he vies for control in Gotham. Scheduled to premiere later in 2024, The Penguin is poised to sustain interest in Reeves’ Bat-verse until the sequel’s release.
Interestingly, the new timeline for The Batman Part II places it beyond the launch of James Gunn’s forthcoming DC Universe, which commences with Superman in 2025, followed by Andy Muschietti’s The Brave And The Bold, introducing a different Batman incarnation. Although Reeves’ Bat-flicks exist outside the DCU, they will continue to run parallel to it.
Moreover, fans can anticipate more alternate-universe Bat narratives, with Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux slated for release this year. Regardless, a substantial wait lies ahead before audiences can delve back into Pattinson’s portrayal of the Caped Crusader or Barry Keoghan’s rendition of the Joker.
