The XI International Forum of Young Cinema, known as Umut, is set to grace the vibrant city of Bishkek from March 28 to 31. Organized with the aim of nurturing the creativity of talented youth and fostering the professional growth of budding filmmakers, this annual event receives support from the Department of Cinematography and the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS Member States.
In 2024, the forum holds special significance as it coincides with the 90th anniversary of the esteemed People’s Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic, documentary director Bekesh Abdyldaev. Under the resonant slogan “To descendants on demand with love,” Umut Forum promises a celebration of cinematic artistry and cultural heritage.
The program is rich and diverse, offering screenings of short films and acclaimed works from winners and participants of esteemed world film festivals. Additionally, there will be engaging public presentations of film projects, enlightening master classes, and insightful lectures by seasoned film experts.
A highlight of the event is the fair of international film festivals, providing a platform for producers and program directors from Commonwealth countries to share insights about their respective events and discuss participation opportunities.
The opening ceremony at the Ala-Too cinema will set the stage for an enchanting journey into cinema, featuring screenings of the captivating short films “To Descendants on Demand” by Aliman Toktogulova and “Garden” by the revered Bekesh Abdyldaev.
As the forum draws to a close, the Chingiz Aitmatov Cinema House will host a poignant evening in memory of the esteemed film director Bekesh Abdyldaev. The closing ceremony, held in the grand Ololo-Yurt hall, will be a momentous occasion where participants of the XI International Forum will be honored with diplomas and certificates, symbolizing their contributions to the world of cinema.
