“Avengers: Endgame” was the culmination of over a decade of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) storytelling. The film brought together many of our favorite heroes in an epic battle against the powerful villain Thanos, who sought to wipe out half of all life in the universe with a snap of his fingers using the Infinity Stones.
As with any epic battle, there were casualties. Some of our beloved heroes did not survive “Endgame,” while others emerged victorious. Let’s take a look at which Avengers survived the events of the film.
Iron Man/Tony Stark
Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr., made the ultimate sacrifice in “Endgame.” In order to defeat Thanos and his army, Tony used the Infinity Stones to snap them out of existence. However, the power of the Stones proved too much for him, and he died from his injuries shortly afterward.
Captain America/Steve Rogers
Captain America, played by Chris Evans, also made a sacrifice in “Endgame,” but of a different kind. After returning the Infinity Stones to their proper places in time, Steve decided to stay in the past and live a full life with Peggy Carter. In the present day, Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) took on the mantle of Captain America.
Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, survived “Endgame” and continued on his adventures. However, he underwent a significant physical transformation during the film, gaining weight and struggling with depression after his failure to stop Thanos in “Avengers: Infinity War.”
Hulk/Bruce Banner
Hulk, played by Mark Ruffalo, survived “Endgame” and underwent a major character shift. He merged his two personalities, Bruce Banner and the Hulk, into one being known as “Professor Hulk.” This version of the character was more controlled and intelligent than before, and served as a valuable member of the Avengers.
Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff
Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson, did not survive “Endgame.” She sacrificed herself on Vormir in order to obtain the Soul Stone and help her fellow Avengers stop Thanos. Her death was a heartbreaking moment for fans of the character.
Hawkeye/Clint Barton
Hawkeye, played by Jeremy Renner, survived “Endgame” despite going on a dark journey after losing his family in the snap. He became a vigilante known as Ronin, but ultimately rejoined the Avengers to help defeat Thanos.
Overall, “Avengers: Endgame” was an emotional rollercoaster for fans of the MCU. While some of our favorite characters did not survive the battle against Thanos, others emerged victorious and continued on their heroic journeys.
