Marvel’s Fifth Avengers Movie May Have Found Its Director in Shawn Levy

by Barbara

Excitement is building among Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans as the franchise prepares for the release of its fifth Avengers film, with a new director potentially stepping in. Initially set to be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the project was left without a director after Cretton’s departure late last year. According to a report by Collider, Marvel is now in talks with Shawn Levy to helm the highly anticipated superhero ensemble movie.

Levy, known for his work on the Netflix hit “Stranger Things” and the “Night at the Museum” series, brings a wealth of experience managing successful franchises. Reports suggest that Levy’s current work on “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which is nearing completion, has impressed Marvel executives, prompting them to offer him the director’s chair for the next Avengers film. Levy is currently reviewing the latest screenplay, penned by Michael Waldron, known for his writing on “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and the “Loki” series.

Although Levy’s involvement has not been confirmed, the discussions mark a significant development for the project. Marvel initially approached Levy in March, but scheduling conflicts prevented him from accepting at that time.

Avengers 5: Cast and Plot Updates

Originally titled “The Kang Dynasty,” the fifth Avengers film is undergoing significant changes, including a likely rebranding and a new primary antagonist following Jonathan Majors’ departure from the role of villain Kang. Despite these shifts, the movie is expected to remain a large-scale ensemble piece. According to Deadline, over sixty characters from the MCU may return, including high-profile actors like Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Hemsworth, and Mark Ruffalo, as well as stars like Tom Hiddleston, Simu Liu, and Karen Gillan.

The upcoming film aims to feature a more balanced cast following the exit of original Avengers stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., and Scarlett Johansson. This new approach is intended to give all characters “equal footing,” promoting a genuine team dynamic rather than focusing on a few main heroes.

Release Date

Production for the film is set to begin next year, with a tentative release date of May 1, 2026.
