Ryan Reynolds has named his favorite superhero movie, and surprisingly, it’s not his own 2011 film, Green Lantern.
Reynolds discussed his admiration for Logan, the 2017 film which marked Hugh Jackman’s then-final appearance as Wolverine. Reynolds’ first Deadpool film premiered in 2016, just a year before Logan, creating an interesting juxtaposition between the two.
“The movies were quite congruent with each other at that point,” Reynolds noted. “Deadpool was different, and then right after Logan was potentially the greatest comic-book adaptation ever made.”
Now, Reynolds and Jackman are teaming up in the upcoming Deadpool and Wolverine film, slated for release on July 25. This collaboration is anticipated to be one of the biggest box office hits of the year.
Jackman, who first appeared as Wolverine in 2000’s X-Men, reflected on the evolution of the superhero genre. “We were on the low-tide version of that genre,” Jackman explained. “It’d gone way up with the Batman movies and fizzled out. But when the X-Men came in, people felt like it represented the source material about giving voice to the marginalized.”
Twenty-four years later, Jackman is reprising his iconic role. Whether his performance will rival his critically acclaimed turn in Logan remains to be seen. Audiences will get to judge for themselves when the film hits theaters on July 25.
