Mattel has announced a new addition to its Barbie-themed product line: Ken’s iconic “Mojo Dojo Casa” from Greta Gerwig’s hit Barbie film.
Following the film’s success, Mattel will unveil a miniature replica of Ken’s house at Comic-Con in San Diego on July 24. The set, which includes a figurine of Ken and a “Kendom” sign, will be available for $50 on Mattel’s website starting July 25. The figurine will don a denim outfit similar to the one Ryan Gosling wore in the movie.
In the film, Ken, played by Gosling, takes over Barbie’s Dreamhouse after learning about patriarchy in the real world. With Barbie, portrayed by Margot Robbie, stuck in the real world, Ken returns to Barbieland to lead a male-dominated movement with his fellow “Kens.”
Ken’s “Mojo Dojo Casa” is designed as a tribute to his masculinity, featuring Western-style doors, cowboy hats, flatscreen TVs, and plenty of leather. In contrast, Barbie’s Dreamhouse is a celebration of all things pink.
According to a press release from Mattel, the company will also offer a mini replica of Barbie’s Dreamhouse from the movie. “Through these ‘sublime’ collector sets, fans can continue to live out their Ken and Barbie adventures from the film, inspiring big dreams in mini ways,” the release states.
PJ Lewis, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Action Figures at Mattel, added, “Mattel Creations is bringing legendary big screen moments to life through these authentic collectibles.”
Since the movie’s release in July 2023, Ken’s house has gained significant attention, with fans sharing their personal versions of “Mojo Dojo Casas” online. To celebrate the film’s impact, Ryan Gosling reprised his role as Ken to perform the song “I’m Just Ken” at the 2024 Oscars.
Gosling’s connection to the role became clear when he found a Ken doll in his backyard, facedown in the mud next to a squished lemon.explaining, “I texted [a picture of] it to Greta and I said, ‘I shall be your Ken, for his story must be told.’”
