“I Was Gonna Be,” a poignant country song carrying strong pro-life messages, has made waves by becoming one of the most widely listened-to country tracks globally.
Released under Chris Wallin’s Baste Records, the single quickly rose to No. 5 on the iTunes charts within just two days of its debut. It has since continued to gain momentum, currently ranking as the fourth most-listened-to country song in America according to iTopChart. The song, performed by 18-year-old Rachel Holt, narrates from the perspective of an unborn child, delivering emotive lines such as, “The first thing I was gonna do/Was breathe and fall in love with you/But a couple of weeks before I saw the light/ Mine flickered out when you changed your mind.”
Rachel Holt shared the impressive statistics online, noting how “I Was Gonna Be” swiftly claimed the top spot for most-played iTunes country videos shortly after its release.
Interestingly, the song almost remained unheard. Chris Wallin initially penned it for personal reflection and never intended to release it. However, in a turn of events, Holt, deeply moved by its anti-abortion message, stepped forward to lend her voice to Wallin’s lyrics. Wallin recounted Holt’s determination, stating, “‘I’m singing that song. I think a lot of the songs that girls my age listen to never talk about real life. And that’s what I want to do.'”
Embodying traditional values, Holt’s rendition breathed new life into the powerful lyrics, resonating strongly with listeners. The song’s popularity continues to soar, holding steadfast on the country music charts, affirming its impact and resonance among audiences.
