In a tribute to last summer’s blockbuster movie “Barbie,” which brought the iconic doll to life through actress Margot Robbie, Barbie fans are in for a treat this August. Mattel, the renowned toy manufacturer, in collaboration with experiential brand Bucket Listers, is set to unveil the Malibu Barbie Cafe in Houston.
Following successful runs in New York, Chicago, Miami, and Minneapolis’ Mall of America, Barbie is now heading to Houston from August to October. For those unfamiliar with the distinctions between Superstar Barbie and Malibu Barbie, Mattel clarifies that Malibu Barbie embodies the quintessential surfer girl, boasting a sun-kissed tan and long, straight hair.
Located at Junction HTX on Washington Avenue in the Timbergrove area of The Heights, the Malibu Barbie Cafe promises a pink-themed, pop-up dining experience unlike any other. Guests are encouraged to don their bubblegum pink cowboy boots and sport bright magenta nails to fully immerse themselves in what promoters describe as “Barbiecore.”
Master Chef finalist and Chopped champion chef Becky Brown has curated an all-day menu featuring whimsically named dishes such as Beachside Breakfast Burrito, Make Waves Avocado Toast, Stay Groovy Grilled Cheese, and California Dreamin’ Club sandwich. These offerings are designed to appeal to Barbie enthusiasts of all ages, from 3 to 93.
In addition to culinary delights, the Malibu Barbie Cafe boasts a groovy roller rink where visitors can skate for a cause; $1 from each roller skate rental supports the charity Girls INC. The venue also features an array of Barbie merchandise and interactive activities, including cupcake decorating classes, paint parties, and 21-and-up skate nights.
Tickets for entry to the cafe, priced at $25 each and including a credit for food and merchandise, will be exclusively available through Bucket Listers.
