Will the Armorer in The Mandalorian’s Big Screen Debut?

by Barbara

As The Mandalorian and Grogu prepare for their cinematic journey, fans are curious about which characters will join them. One key figure, the Armorer, portrayed by Emily Swallow, has been a crucial part of the Disney+ series since its debut in 2019. The Armorer, a leader among the Mandalorians, maintains their ancient traditions and crafts their valuable beskar armor. In season 3, she played a vital role in reuniting the warriors and reigniting Mandalore’s legendary forges.

Swallow discussed the possibility of the Armorer appearing in the upcoming film. Despite her enthusiasm for reprising the role, she revealed that she has not been approached about joining the cast for the movie. Swallow’s full response sheds light on this matter:

A Shift Away from Mandalore?

Swallow’s comments suggest that the forthcoming film might explore new narratives beyond Mandalore. At the end of season 3, Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal, settles on Navarro, taking on contract work for the New Republic. This indicates that his next adventure might be more self-contained. With Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) defeated, Mandalore faces fewer external threats, potentially allowing the Mandalorians to rebuild off-screen.

Recent Star Wars projects have shifted focus. The series Ahsoka introduced Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) as a new antagonist, moving the conflict away from the Mandalorians. Characters like Carson Teva (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) have been reassigned to New Republic security, further distancing the storyline from Mandalore. Additionally, the upcoming show Skeleton Crew, set to premiere in 2024, will feature a group of young adventurers exploring the galaxy, indicating a departure from Mandalorian culture.

Future Prospects for the Armorer

While Swallow’s current exclusion from the film doesn’t rule out a future appearance, it’s evident that the creative vision of Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni for this era of Star Wars is not centered on the Mandalorians. Season 3 of The Mandalorian wrapped up many of the ongoing storylines related to Mandalore, potentially serving as a temporary conclusion for those narratives. Therefore, although the Armorer remains a symbolic and unifying figure for the Mandalorians, the upcoming film might keep the focus on Din Djarin and Grogu’s new adventures, leaving Mandalore and its warriors to develop their story elsewhere.
