Veteran Actress Smriti Biswas Narang Passes Away at 100

Veteran actress Smriti Biswas Narang, renowned for her illustrious career in both Hindi and Bengali cinema, passed away peacefully at her residence in Nashik, Maharashtra. She was 100 years old. According to reports from various media sources, her final rites were conducted on Thursday morning at 10 am.

Smriti, who had been residing in a modest one-room-kitchen apartment in Nashik Road area, breathed her last on Wednesday night due to age-related ailments.

Having relocated to Nashik 28 years ago to be closer to her sister, a Christian missionary, Smriti carved a niche for herself in the film industry spanning over three decades from the 1930s to the 1960s. She gained acclaim for her memorable performances in films such as Nek Dil, Aparajita, and Modern Girl.

Starting her career as a child artist, Smriti worked with eminent filmmakers including Guru Dutt, V Shantaram, Mrinal Sen, Bimal Roy, BR Chopra, and Raj Kapoor. She shared the screen with legendary actors like Dev Anand, Kishore Kumar, and Balraj Sahni across various films.

Her acting journey began with the Bengali film Sandhya in 1930, and she concluded her Hindi film career with Modern Girl in 1961.

After marrying filmmaker S D Narang, Smriti chose to step away from acting. She is survived by her two sons, Rajeev and Satyajeet.

This news marks the end of an era in Indian cinema, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances and contributions to the silver screen.
