In honor of Barbie’s 65th anniversary, Mattel has launched “Barbie: The Exhibition” at London’s Design Museum, set to open on July 5th. Lucy Shelley, tech editor for Campaign, received an exclusive preview tour from Krista Berger, senior vice-president of Barbie and head of dolls at Mattel. Together, they explored the exhibition, tracing the evolution of the iconic Barbie brand over the decades.
During their walkthrough, Berger and Shelley delved into various themes including inclusivity, consumerism, sustainability, and the influence of Barbie in cinema. They candidly discussed how the brand has navigated criticism, adapted its strategies, and even explored the imaginative concept of sending Barbie into space.
The exhibition promises an immersive journey through the cultural impact and transformations of Barbie, reflecting on its enduring legacy and future innovations.
