Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ Head of Marvel Streaming, Television, and Animation, shared exclusive insights into the studio’s upcoming animated projects, carefully selecting updates that tease rather than reveal too much.
One of the standout reveals was the confirmation of “Eyes of Wakanda,” a Black Panther spin-off that Winderbaum described as deeply intertwined with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Produced by Ryan Coogler and directed by Todd Harris, the series delves into Wakandan history with breathtaking action and compelling storytelling. “It expands into the greater MCU at different time periods,” Winderbaum hinted, promising a treat for fans of the films.
Turning to “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” formerly known as “Spider-Man: Freshman Year,” Winderbaum highlighted the series’ ensemble cast and its unique storytelling approach under showrunner Jeff Trammel. Drawing from his experience with “Craig of the Creek,” Trammel weaves a rich tapestry of characters including Peter Parker, Nico Minoru, Lonnie Lincoln, and Harry Osborn, promising an “incredible” teenage ensemble experience.
Discussing Marvel’s first animated series, “What If…?,” Winderbaum hinted at the upcoming third season, suggesting it will serve as a fitting conclusion to the trilogy. “It takes us to places you’d never expect,” he revealed, promising a deep dive into the Multiverse with unexpected character appearances and a poignant resolution for Uatu, The Watcher.
Wrapping up, Winderbaum teased the return of “X-Men ’97,” following its successful debut on Disney+. Promising big plans for the second season, he assured fans of an emotional continuation in true X-Men fashion.
While updates have been sparse since Marvel Animation’s 2022 Comic-Con panel due to various challenges, Winderbaum encouraged fans to stay tuned for new developments and trailers as they await these highly anticipated animated ventures.
