LU KALA Wins Billboard Canada Women In Music Rising Star Award

by Barbara

Canadian pop sensation LU KALA has been honored with the prestigious Billboard Canada Women In Music Rising Star Award for her remarkable achievements in the music industry this year. Known for her empowering hits such as “Hotter Now,” “Pretty Girl Era,” the heartfelt ballad “Nothing But Love,” and her collaboration on Latto’s “Lottery,” LU KALA has dominated both U.S. and Canadian charts.

The award ceremony, which took place at iHeartRadio Canada’s headquarters in downtown Toronto, included an exclusive acoustic performance by LU KALA. Despite her usual high-energy pop style, the stripped-down renditions showcased her vibrant stage presence and undeniable charisma. Referring to her acoustic performance of “Pretty Girl Era,” she joked, “‘Pretty Girl Era’ acoustic? Okay!”

Throughout the event, LU KALA exuded confidence, particularly in her breakout anthem “Hotter Now,” where she delivered her favorite line: “You missed this booty ever since it bounced / but it’s not coming back / I’m not coming back.”

Reflecting on her journey, LU KALA spoke about learning self-confidence from a young age. “I’ve always been a plus-sized girl, and in a time where that wasn’t really being reflected in the media or anywhere else, I had to channel my confidence early,” she shared.

LU KALA’s rapid ascent continues with recent news that Katy Perry has co-written one of her upcoming singles, a collaboration that LU KALA describes as a dream come true. “I was in disbelief when she said it. I was keeping quiet!” she exclaimed. “Not many people can say that they’ve worked with their idols.”

LU KALA’s Rising Star award joins previous Billboard Canada Women in Music accolades for artists like The Beaches and Allison Russell. The full interview and performance video from LU KALA can be anticipated later this summer on iHeartRadio and Billboard Canada.
