The Hiawatha Music Co-op launched the countdown to its highly anticipated annual Hiawatha Music Festival with a lively event on Thursday, July 11th, at Ore Docks Brewing Co. in Marquette. The evening featured a spirited performance by The Union Suits, this year’s headlining act.
Scheduled to take place from Friday, July 19th, through Sunday, July 21st, at Tourist Park in Marquette, the festival promises a weekend filled with musical delights. The Union Suits are set to grace the stage on Friday night, captivating audiences with their unique blend of folk music.
Established in 1979, the Hiawatha Music Co-op has been a steadfast organizer of this traditional music festival, which stands as a singular event of its size and scope in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Sarah Gimpl, the co-op’s content manager, highlighted the festival’s distinctive focus on folk music: “We have Cajun music, traditional Mongolian throat singing, country folk, traditional folk. It comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes.”
