The Smile Cancels European Tour Due to Member’s Hospitalization

by Barbara

The Smile, the art rock band featuring Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead alongside drummer Tom Skinner, has been compelled to cancel its ongoing European tour following Greenwood’s hospitalization earlier this week.

In a statement released on Friday via The Smile’s official social media channels, the band disclosed that Jonny Greenwood had fallen seriously ill due to an infection, necessitating emergency medical attention including intensive care. Although Greenwood is now reported to be out of immediate danger, medical advisors have directed the band to suspend all tour commitments until Greenwood achieves a full recovery.

Radiohead subsequently shared The Smile’s statement across their own social media platforms without further comment.

The Smile initiated their summer tour in June with a performance at Denmark’s Northside Festival. The tour, which encompassed 29 dates, was slated to conclude on August 30 at the Meo Kalorama Festival in Lisbon, Portugal.

The Smile’s debut album, “A Light for Attracting Attention,” was released in May 2022, while their latest album, “Wall of Eyes,” debuted in 2024 and reached No. 5 on Billboard’s Top Alternative Albums chart.
