Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige Discusses “Blade” Reboot and MCU’s Future

by Barbara

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige shed light on the status of the long-anticipated “Blade” reboot. The project, which features two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali in the lead role, has faced its share of challenges since its announcement in July 2019.

Feige emphasized the studio’s cautious approach to developing “Blade,” citing the importance of not rushing the production process. He acknowledged the project’s turbulent journey, marked by changes in both writers and directors over the years. Bassam Tariq, initially slated to direct, departed from the film just months before production was scheduled to commence in September 2022.

Responding to inquiries linking “Blade” to the newly introduced R-rated MCU entry “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Feige reaffirmed Marvel’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of characters like Blade within their respective genres. He underscored the inherent association of Blade with an R-rated format, reminiscent of the character’s earlier cinematic iterations starring Wesley Snipes.

Reflecting on the challenges of script development, Feige mentioned the evolution of different story directions, including speculation about a narrative focusing on women and laden with moral undertones. Despite these transformations, Marvel remains dedicated to delivering a compelling “Blade” film that honors its roots.

The original “Blade” trilogy, which began in 1998, established a precedent for the character’s cinematic presence, with subsequent installments directed by acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro and others. Marvel’s decision to reintroduce Blade into its expansive universe represents a strategic move to expand the franchise’s diversity and narrative depth.

Currently slated for release on November 7, 2025, “Blade” holds promise as a pivotal addition to Marvel’s future lineup, showcasing their ongoing commitment to innovative storytelling and character-driven narratives within the MCU.
