Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was arrested at the Dubai International Airport on Monday following a defamation complaint filed by his former manager Salman Ahmed.
Khan, who had arrived in Dubai from Lahore for an event, was taken into police custody at the airport’s immigration center. Subsequently, he was transferred to the Burj Dubai police station for further questioning.
Khan vehemently denied the allegations, labeling them as “fake and baseless” in a video posted online.
The incident highlights the escalating tensions between Khan and Ahmed, stemming from previous legal disputes between the two. It was indicated that Ahmed had initiated legal action against Khan several months ago after being dismissed amidst a disagreement.
During his trip, Khan was accompanied by his brother-in-law Bakka Burki. The exact nature of the charges leveled against Khan in the defamation complaint has yet to be disclosed.
This development underscores the ongoing legal complexities and personal conflicts involving the renowned singer and his former manager, which have garnered significant attention in recent months.
