“The Becomers,” a distinctive indie film that captured hearts at last year’s festival circuit with its unique storyline, is gearing up for a theatrical release this summer. Directed by Zach Clark, the film promises to blend elements of science fiction with the allure of a road movie, offering viewers a journey unlike any other.
The plot centers around two alien lovers fleeing their dying planet, who arrive separately on Earth. To reunite, they begin jumping from one human body to another, plunging deeper into the chaos of modern-day America. Described as a “weird” yet captivating tale, early reviews hint at moments of unsettling intrigue and unexpected twists.
Director Zach Clark, drawing inspiration from classics like “Star Trek: The Original Series” and contemporary societal upheavals, crafted “The Becomers” on a modest budget. The cast includes Molly Plunk, known for her roles in “Little Sister” and “See You Next Tuesday,” alongside Mike Lopez, Keith Kelly, Isabel Alamin, and Frank V. Ross. Notably, narration by Russell Mael of the iconic duo Sparks adds a distinctive layer to the film’s atmosphere.
Scheduled for release, “The Becomers” will premiere in New York on August 23, 2024, at Cinema Village, followed by screenings in Los Angeles at Lumiere Music Hall on August 30 and in Chicago at Music Box Theatre on September 13.
