Colin Farrell will return as Oswald ‘The Penguin’ Cobblepot in the highly anticipated sequel to “The Batman,” director Matt Reeves confirmed at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
During a panel discussion for “The Penguin” series, Reeves announced that filming for “The Batman – Part II” is scheduled to commence next year. The director noted that Farrell’s character needs to be in a specific narrative position for the sequel, hinting at the character’s development in the upcoming spin-off series, “The Penguin.”
This confirmation marks the first official acknowledgment that Farrell’s Penguin will appear in “The Batman – Part II,” extending his role beyond the spin-off series.
The eight-episode “The Penguin” series, set to debut on Max in the US on September 19, 2024, will pick up a week after the events of “The Batman.” The series will also air on Sky Atlantic and stream on NOW in the UK later in 2024.
Farrell expressed enthusiasm about revisiting his role, stating, “The world that Matt Reeves created for The Batman is one that warrants a deeper gaze through the eyes of Oswald Cobblepot. I couldn’t be more excited about continuing this exploration of Oz as he rises through the darkened ranks to become The Penguin. It will be good to get him back on the streets of Gotham for a little madness and a little mayhem.”
The sequel to “The Batman,” starring Robert Pattinson, is set for a theatrical release on October 2, 2026.
