The movie’s consistent returns over a sustained period have propelled it into the Top 5 Movies of 2024 domestically. Now holding fifth place with over $198 million, Twisters has surpassed the previous fifth-place holder, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which stands just shy at $196 million. The next target for Twisters is Dune: Part Two in fourth place, although the $80 million gap suggests a challenging climb.
Twisters owes much of its success to the cult following of the 1996 original, with stars like Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones adding significant appeal. The movie has been praised for its own merits, enjoying acclaim from both audiences and critics. Jeff Ewing from Collider lauded the film, stating, “Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell prove they can anchor a thrilling tale, grounding a film that has scale and high stakes. Inside Out 2 Dominates the Box Office
Unsurprisingly, Inside Out 2 sits atop the list as one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. The Pixar sequel leads by over $200 million ahead of its closest competitor and maintains a staggering $430 million lead over Twisters. Having surpassed $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office, Inside Out 2 has become the dominant force of 2024, outpacing many other projects that attempted to challenge its reign.
However, the recent release of Deadpool and Wolverine threatens to shake up the standings. Already grossing $852 million worldwide, the MCU film has gained rapid momentum thanks to effective marketing and a strong presence at SDCC 2024. As Inside Out 2’s box office run winds down, the competition heats up with Deadpool and Wolverine potentially vying for the top spot.
